About The Position

The Mechanic A position involves troubleshooting and repairing complex water system process and mechanical equipment. The role includes performing preventative maintenance tasks to enhance the reliability of water systems and providing technical recommendations for system improvements. The mechanic must be available for on-call duty and respond to emergencies or critical equipment failures at the plant site.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED + 5 years of experience and technical courses in the repair of mechanical rotating equipment, welding, and metal fabrication required.
  • Or 2 years experience as a Mechanic 'B'.
  • Associate's Degree + 3 years experience preferred.
  • Must comply with all safety and environmental policies.
  • Confined space entry required.
  • Must have ability to safely work around water treatment chemicals such as strong acids and bases.
  • Must be an effective communicator and team player with internal/external teams.
  • Must be able to accommodate overtime and on-call status and respond to emergency situations as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots and repairs all mechanical process equipment within the Regional Water Systems, including conveyor systems and sludge dewatering equipment.
  • Understands basic electricity, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Removes, installs, and rebuilds all types of rotating equipment, including vertical turbine pumps, centrifugal pumps, and gearboxes.
  • Replaces mechanical seals and repacks packing.
  • Reads blueprints and drawings.
  • Aligns mechanical pumps and motors with laser alignment equipment.
  • Changes out all types/models of electrical motors, as well as pneumatic, hydraulic, electric, and manual actuators.
  • Maintains, installs, and rebuilds all types of valves, including PRVs, butterfly valves, air release valves, gate valves, and check valves.
  • Cuts, welds, and burns to make minor piping and structural repairs above or below grade.
  • Repairs and installs various types of piping and fittings, including Schedule 80 PVC, stainless steel, galvanized, and brass.
  • Paints, cuts grass, sweeps floors, and performs other duties as assigned when needed.
  • Performs preventative maintenance tasks to increase overall water systems' reliability.
