PBF Energy Inc. (NYSE:PBF), one of the largest independent refiners in North America, operating through its subsidiaries, oil refineries and related facilities. We are seeking a talented Mechanic A to join our team as a pivotal member that would play a key role here at PBF Energy. This role is located at Vernon, CA. The Mechanic A position must demonstrate the ability to safely install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain instrument and mechanical systems in the Torrance Logistics Pipeline Companies. These systems consist of instrument equipment, analyzers, motorized valve operators, centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, meters, temperature, pressure, and flow transmitters, control valves, isolation block valves, piping, instrument tubing and other similar equipment related to the petrochemical industry.

  • Proficiency in identifying mechanical seal problems.
  • Inspect, rebuild, and install mechanical seals.
  • Ability to disassemble, inspect, document, repair and reassemble pumps and related support equipment to specifications.
  • Working knowledge of pump alignment with a laser or mechanical revers alignment.
  • Proficiency in reading and comprehending flow diagrams, mechanical drawings, and related manuals.
  • Must be familiar with various types of valves and how to perform preventative maintenance, evaluate and perform repairs in the field.
  • Working knowledge with inspecting, testing, and repairing various types of relief valves.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and repair various types of relief valves.
  • Knowledge to inspect and repair various hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and repair vapor recovery systems and vapor combustion systems.
  • Ability to meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) - Operator Qualifications (OQ) requirements.
  • Must be able to identify and perform testing/repair for all DOT & OQ related equipment.
  • Able to perform various field equipment calibrations.
  • Able to install and calibrate the mechanical portion of tank gauging equipment.
  • Vibration analysis, metering, sampling, pumping, and related equipment used for field equipment.
  • Knowledge of pump and related equipment installations and start up procedures.
  • Able to bend and install instrumentation tubing.
  • Working knowledge of hydro-testing procedures, including all documentation to DOT and CA State Lands Commission standards.
  • Must be capable of performing unsupervised work as assigned.
  • Willingness to accept responsibility and accountability for all quality and quantity of work performed and ensure that all work is performed in a safe manner.
  • Must be able create work procedures and job safety analysis to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
  • Must be able to research various equipment and contact vendors to order parts and replace field equipment.
  • Must be able to perform work at heights on tanks, fire monitors, and man lifts using fall protection/prevention equipment.
  • Consistently demonstrate safe work practices with work procedures and JSA's.
  • Must have satisfactory attendance, safety, and work performances for the 90-day period.
  • Demonstrate proficiency at disassembly, inspection, documentation, repair, and reassembly of metering and related equipment to specifications.
  • Able to be a mentor to anyone in training position within the mechanics group.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid California driver's License.
  • 5+ years' experience in refinery/petrochemical industry or manufacturing/industrial setting preferred.
  • Hard trade experience/certification is a preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office suite required.
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • The pay rate for this position is $49.88 per hour based on the CBA.
