About The Position
The Mechanic A, B, C positions at the Monterey-Salinas Transit District involve performing skilled mechanical work under general supervision. The primary responsibilities include diagnosing, maintaining, repairing, servicing, inspecting, and testing MST buses and support vehicles. The roles are categorized into three levels: Mechanic A, Mechanic B, and Mechanic C, each with specific duties and qualifications. Mechanic A is responsible for performing comprehensive maintenance and repair tasks on MST buses, including troubleshooting, rebuilding, and overhauling various components such as power plants, transmissions, and hydraulic systems. This position requires a high level of expertise and the ability to operate and repair shop equipment. Mechanic A may also act as a lead mechanic and is expected to prepare detailed reports on inspections and repairs. Mechanic B focuses on performing brake and tire safety inspections, servicing tools and equipment, and conducting preventive maintenance inspections. This role requires the ability to troubleshoot systems and perform minor repairs, as well as maintain records and reports. Mechanic C is an entry-level position that involves assisting higher-level mechanics, performing basic maintenance tasks, and learning the trade. This role includes conducting safety inspections and using various tools and equipment under supervision. All positions require a valid California driver's license and the ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
