About The Position

Mechanic 1st class maintains and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment, requiring skills in troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and operating mobile machinery. This role requires proficiency in the use of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), completing work orders, ordering parts and services and tracking them.

Requirements

  • High School diploma (GED) Tech Schooling.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in the Industrial or Power Industry Maintenance Field, or a minimum of 2 years' experience as a 2nd class Mechanic.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Software; Excel, Word, Office, etc.
  • Ability to read and record measurements with precision.
  • Proficient in welding, soldering, brazing, pipe fitting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanic shop in terms of work order prioritization and delegation when the lead mechanic is absent.
  • Provide necessary expertise on equipment repairs and reference O&M Manuals to support the Mechanical Maintenance shop with specific work orders.
  • Act as Facility Subject Matter Expert (SME) with operating equipment in a Waste-to-Energy facility or similar industry.
  • Proficient in welding practices and facility Subject Matter Expert (SME), including SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, Brazing and Soldering processes.
  • Anticipate typical problems, identify potential or recurring problems, and take appropriate action.
  • Troubleshoot equipment, diagnose problems and perform repairs.
  • Perform preventive and repair maintenance procedures safely, environmentally compliant, and professionally.
  • Assist in training other employees.
  • Direct those assigned to assist in the safe, environmentally compliant, and efficient completion of maintenance tasks.
  • Identify and effectively use basic and precision measuring tools.
  • Operate mobile equipment including industrial forklifts, manlifts, skid steer type loaders, and other mobile equipment.
  • Use various machine shop equipment such as a bandsaw, drill press, stationary grinder, parts washer, etc.
  • Work closely with PA to order, track and receive parts ordered for outages, projects and routine maintenance.
  • Respond and report to work during off hours when emergency repairs are required and ability to be on call.
  • Communicate effectively via radio using three-part communication.
  • Actively participate and support operations functions as necessary.
