About The Position

Amentum is seeking qualified Aircraft Structural Mechanic I's to support U.S. Navy Aviation maintenance operations at NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach, VA. The role involves troubleshooting and repairing aircraft structures and components, performing inspections, and ensuring the safety and functionality of aircraft systems. The mechanic will work with various tools and equipment, interpret technical manuals, and may supervise aircraft maintenance activities.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum five (5) years of recent organizational level F/A-18 A-G aircraft maintenance experience.
  • 3 years prior F/A-18 A-G Collateral Duty Inspector/Quality Assurance Representative experience or FAA A&P License.
  • Completion of Navy Aviation Structural Mechanics AM 'A' School or FAA A&P License.
  • Ability to obtain Collateral Duty Inspector qualification within 30 days of hire.
  • Knowledge and use of special tools/equipment required for maintenance tasks.
  • Valid Virginia or North Carolina Driver license (if North Carolina resident).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical publications and safety rules.
  • Physical ability to perform all assigned duties.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces, and controls.
  • Repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft structures such as wings and fuselage.
  • Perform inspections including progressive, phase, periodic, and other hourly checks.
  • Examine engines for issues such as cracked cylinders and oil leaks.
  • Inspect jet engines and components for cracks, corrosion, and other damages.
  • Test engine operation using various testing equipment to locate malfunctions.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories.
  • Perform preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections.
  • Enter maintenance records and verify satisfactory completion of work.
  • Supervise the jacking and towing of aircraft.
