About The Position

The Meat Wrapper – Journeyperson (Union) at Uwajimaya prioritizes excellent customer service by expertly preparing, wrapping, packaging, labeling, and displaying meat products to Uwajimaya standards. This role demonstrates advanced product knowledge, accuracy in pricing and weight, and consistency in presentation while supporting daily Meat Department operations. The Journeyperson Meat Wrapper works independently, maintains food safety and quality standards, and supports department efficiency through reliable execution, product flow awareness, and collaboration with Meat Cutters and Meat Management.

Requirements

  • Employment at the Bellevue, Renton, or Seattle Uwajimaya location, will require a union membership.
  • Minimum of 2 years of meat wrapping experience or equivalent experience in a retail meat department.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of meat wrapping, packaging, labeling, and merchandising standards.
  • Food Handler’s Card.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Basic math proficiency, familiarity with ten-key/calculator, and comfortable using computers.
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate varying shifts.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and proactively work independently.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain a friendly and approachable demeanor.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of all meat products sold at Uwajimaya, including packaging, labeling, and handling requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to health department and company policies to maintain a safe environment for both food handling and workplace activities.
  • Prepare, wrap, and package meat products in accordance with department standards.
  • Weigh, wrap, and label meat accurately, adhering to COOL guidelines.
  • Attractively display meat products, maintain stock levels, and check quality throughout the day.
  • Monitor product levels, freshness, and rotation, and communicate needs or concerns to Meat Cutters or Meat Management.
  • Inspect wrapped and displayed products for quality, accuracy, and proper storage conditions.
  • Support department efficiency by maintaining consistent workflow and product readiness.
  • Greet customers with a smile and assist with product selection and preparation questions.
  • Provide information on product use, benefits, and offer recipes and cooking suggestions.
  • Cross-merchandise and upsell products when opportunities arise.
  • Handle customer complaints and escalate concerns as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the meat department, wrapping areas, display cases, and equipment.
  • Support training and onboarding of new or Apprentice Meat Wrappers, as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
