About The Position

The Meat & Seafood Manager is responsible for the overall performance, presentation, and profitability of the Meat & Seafood department at Plum Market. This leadership role oversees purchasing, inventory management, labor planning, merchandising, and Customer Service standards. The Department Manager ensures that high-quality, fresh, and properly rotated meat and seafood products are consistently available and presented to meet Plum Market’s standards. They are responsible for leading and developing a skilled team while maintaining all compliance, safety, and operational standards.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of meat cutting, seafood handling, and product preparation.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple product lines, labor, and profit margins simultaneously.
  • Leadership experience in a meat, seafood, or fresh food retail setting.
  • Strong skills in purchasing, ordering, inventory control, and shrink management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and comfort using internal retail systems.
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 4 hours without a break – we work on the floor and alongside our team.
  • Ability to bend and stoop to grasp objects, climb ladders, lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted, and push/pull carts weighing up to 100 lbs. unassisted.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all day-to-day operations in the Meat & Seafood department, including receiving, storage, cutting, packaging, rotation, and merchandising.
  • Deliver a consistently high standard of freshness, food safety, and visual appeal across all products.
  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise Team Members, providing regular coaching and feedback.
  • Monitor department financials, meet margin goals, and manage labor and shrink.
  • Execute merchandising plans, promotional displays, and seasonal resets.
  • Maintain pricing accuracy and compliance with signage, labeling, and traceability standards.
  • Partner with vendors, Store Leadership, and Support Teams to align on assortment, product quality, and inventory needs.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and well-organized work environment that meets all regulatory and company standards.
  • Communicate effectively with Customers, Team Members, and Leadership.
  • Uphold all Plum Market policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.
