Responsibilities

  • Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with a focus on fast, friendly service.
  • Assist customers with product suggestions, special orders, and food‑preparation recommendations.
  • Engage in suggestive selling through telephone contact, in‑store intercom announcements, and direct customer interaction.
  • Plan daily operations and monitor production processes to ensure compliance with company procedures and profitability goals.
  • Trim, cut, wrap, tray, and display meat; build meat and seafood displays; rotate product and remove outdated/expired items.
  • Maintain department cleanliness and sanitation at all times.
  • Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays.
  • Operate and maintain meat coolers, freezers, butcher block, and related equipment as required.
  • Follow department standards for handling quick‑sale and highly perishable items.
  • Run cutting tests on meat products to monitor profitability and yield.
  • Ensure adherence to trim specifications and cutting standards.
  • Maintain appropriate temperatures throughout meat preparation, display, and storage.
  • Ensure proper product preparation methods and adherence to company quality standards.
  • Schedule, supervise, train, and assign duties to all meat department employees.
  • Monitor employee productivity and evaluate overall performance.
  • Ensure adequate coverage and service levels throughout all operating hours.
  • Possess full knowledge of all department functions, including cutting, grinding, and wrapping fresh meat.
  • Understand and execute opening and closing procedures.
  • Train employees on store policies, sales techniques, and required recordkeeping procedures.
  • Identify and develop high‑potential employees for advancement opportunities.
  • Maintain working knowledge of company guidelines and expectations as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook.
  • Ensure compliance with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, code‑dating standards, and Country of Origin Labeling (COOL).
  • Ensure all products are priced accurately and signed correctly.
  • Enforce company grooming standards and dress code.
  • Conduct pre‑employment interviews and participate in hiring decisions.
  • Initiate personnel actions including transfers, promotions, and disciplinary steps as needed.
  • Maintain inventory levels to ensure adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness based on division directives.
  • Stock and rotate all product; maintain a clean, organized meat cooler.
  • Prepare sales and inventory reports as required.
  • Conduct physical inventory every 4 weeks.
  • Control shrink, manage department costs, and ensure accurate ordering practices.
  • Operate department equipment including pallet jacks, hand trucks, knives, scissors, safety cutters, grinders, saws, saw blades, and cubers.
  • Ensure safety, cleanliness, and sanitation of the sales floor, work area, cooler, freezer, cutting room, and display cases.
  • Follow all workplace safety policies and emergency procedures for equipment and software malfunctions.
  • Receive and process product loads: break down pallets, verify invoice accuracy, inspect quality, report shortages, stock and rotate product.
  • Follow temperature guidelines, storage procedures, and proper packaging techniques.
  • Maintain accurate department paperwork and logs including: Daily Log Sheet Production Chart Meat Grinding Log Sales and Labor Reports Other required documentation
  • Ensure all administrative paperwork is completed accurately and timely.
  • Attend and participate in sales meetings.
  • Communicate sales goals, department performance, and opportunities for improvement to the team.
  • Perform all job duties safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
