About The Position

The Meat Cutter position at Safeway in Yuma, AZ is responsible for maintaining a high level of fresh meat production while ensuring cleanliness, product quality, and customer service. Requirements

• Ability to be friendly, courteous, and tactful with customers and co-workers.
• Working knowledge of all job duties within the Meat Department.
• Ability to communicate orally and read written assignments.
• Good understanding of company practices and Meat Department policies.
• Knowledge of product variety, perishability, food safety, and sanitation.
• Ability to lift and maneuver objects up to approximately 80 lbs.
• Frequent reaching, bending, and climbing ladders required.
• Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination necessary.
• Mental alertness for safe and accurate work completion.
• Knowledge of basic mathematics and weights and measures.
• Experience operating computer software and electronic ordering devices.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to customer service programs to meet or exceed goals.
• Handles customer relations positively, resolving complaints as needed.
• Receives and breaks down loads, checking for quality and quantity.
• Cuts, grinds, weighs, and wraps fresh meat products according to procedures.
• Controls shrink and expenses, preventing the sale of spoiled products.
• Completes and monitors daily log sheets and required paperwork.
• Maintains and organizes the meat department cooler and freezer.
• Ensures cleanliness and sanitation of the sales floor and work areas.
• Meets product quality, trimming, grinding, packaging, labeling, and rotation standards.
• Implements merchandising strategies and complies with labeling laws.
• Follows pricing policies for re-worked and reduced-to-clear items.
• Complies with health and food safety standards.
• Assists customers with special orders and engages in suggestive selling.
• Responds appropriately to incoming calls.
• Performs all job duties safely, accurately, and with integrity.
