About The Position

The Meat Cutter (Butcher) position at Whole Foods Market involves a variety of responsibilities centered around the cutting, preparation, display, and sale of meat and seafood products. This role is crucial in ensuring that customers receive high-quality products while maintaining the store's positive image through courteous and efficient service. Team Members are expected to adhere to the company's Standard Operating Procedures and support Whole Foods Market's core values and goals. This includes promoting national, regional, and store programs and initiatives, as well as ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, particularly those related to food safety. In this role, the Meat Cutter will break down various types of meat, including beef, pork, lamb, and poultry, into retail cuts. They will also prepare specialty meat products such as sausages and oven-ready items, and handle seafood by cutting, plating, and merchandising different varieties. The position requires the ability to fillet and debone fish and crack shellfish upon customer request. Additionally, the Meat Cutter will be responsible for preparing, packaging, weighing, and pricing meat and seafood products for sale, as well as receiving and unloading product deliveries while ensuring that all products meet Whole Foods Market's quality standards. The Meat Cutter will also maintain a sampling program, monitor for spoilage, and strive to achieve the highest standards of retail execution. A key aspect of this role is fostering a positive team environment characterized by outstanding teamwork and mutual respect. The Meat Cutter will need to maintain awareness of customer flows and needs, directing Team Members as necessary to ensure customer satisfaction. This includes responding promptly to customer inquiries and needs. Furthermore, the Meat Cutter will be involved in selecting, training, developing, mentoring, and motivating Team Members to sustain a high-performance team and minimize turnover. Safety and security standards for Team Members must also be communicated and maintained, along with providing timely performance evaluations.
