About The Position

The Meat Clerk supports the meat department by assisting with product preparation, stocking, and customer service. This role ensures the department maintains high standards of cleanliness, product quality, and customer satisfaction while adhering to food safety regulations and supporting daily operations. Key Responsibilities: · Product Preparation: Assist with basic meat preparation tasks, such as packaging, weighing, and labeling products under the direction of the Meat Cutter or Manager. · Stocking & Merchandising: Stock and rotate meat products in display cases to ensure freshness, attractiveness, and proper presentation. · Customer Service: Greet customers, answer questions, fulfill special requests, and provide product recommendations to enhance the shopping experience. · Food Safety & Cleanliness: Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment, including display cases, storage areas, and equipment, in compliance with HACCP, FDA, and local health department standards. · Inventory Support: Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing meat products to minimize waste and ensure proper stock rotation. · Team Support: Collaborate with the meat department team to meet department goals and support overall store operations. · Equipment Maintenance: Clean and sanitize meat department tools and equipment as directed, ensuring a safe and efficient workspace. · Evening Cleanup: Perform thorough cleanup duties in the evenings, including sanitizing work surfaces, cleaning equipment, organizing storage areas, and conditioning the department for the next day. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; no prior experience required, though retail or food service experience is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices or willingness to learn.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work in a cold environment.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a grocery or food service environment.
  • Familiarity with basic meat handling or merchandising techniques.
  • Food safety certification (e.g., ServSafe) is a plus.
