About The Position

The Meat Clerk position at Sedano's Supermarkets involves wrapping and packaging cuts of meat and poultry, and assisting with the proper presentation of all meat department products in coolers for customers. The role requires adherence to company goals, values, operating principles, and all governing laws and regulations. Employees must follow departmental and company policies and procedures to ensure smooth operations. A key responsibility is maintaining a safe environment throughout the store, including securing hazardous areas, informing management, and taking action to remove hazards. Additionally, the role requires a friendly attitude, proper uniform adherence, maintaining a stocked and organized store, and providing excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • Current food safety training certificate (must be renewed every three years)
  • Ability to use department equipment properly
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions in English
  • Ability and willingness to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one and small group situations with managers, co-workers, and customers
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Takes responsibility for own actions
  • Ability to work hours and days scheduled, including holidays and weekends
  • Basic math and numerical skills, including weights, measures, and identifying product codes
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness

Responsibilities

  • Weigh, label, and/or package meat or seafood for display.
  • Lift and carry merchandise from the back room to stock carts or display coolers.
  • Check product quality for freshness, review "sell by" dates, and rotate products.
  • Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
  • Maintain refrigerated cases with appetizing product displays.
  • Assist customers by answering product questions and remain knowledgeable about department products.
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
  • Keep work area clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards.
  • Wash, sanitize, and properly store knives and other department utensils and equipment.
  • Properly use all meat department equipment (refrigerators, freezers, scales, slicers, wrapping devices) and report malfunctions.
  • Maintain sanitary work area requirements to prevent food contamination and adhere to health, safety, and sanitation codes.
  • Complete all required cleaning procedures at the end of the day shift, including hosing down floors, cleaning countertops, and meat cutting equipment.
  • Report all accidents promptly according to company procedures.
  • Attend and participate in departmental and store meetings.
  • Maintain punctuality and good attendance in compliance with company policies.
  • Perform other work-related duties as required.
  • Ensure country of origin labels and/or signage is correct for department products.
  • Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
  • Assist with customer areas of Meat, Deli, and Seafood when needed.
  • Assist with unloading and/or verifying merchandise off meat delivery trucks when needed.
