About The Position

As a Meat Clerk, you will maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on providing fast and friendly customer service. You will assist customers by making product suggestions, filling special orders, and providing food preparation suggestions. Engaging in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, in-store intercom, and one-on-one customer interaction is essential. You will be responsible for trimming, cutting, wrapping, tray preparation, grinding, and displaying meat, as well as building meat and seafood displays, rotating, and discarding outdated or spoiled products. Ensuring cleanliness of the work area and department is crucial. You will implement effective promotional and seasonal displays and may be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the meat cooler, freezer, and butcher block. Understanding opening and closing department procedures and maintaining department standards in handling quick sales items is required. You will also control shrink and cost, assist with inventory management, and ensure proper product preparation techniques.

Requirements

  • Ability to frequently reach, lift, and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approximately 80 lbs.

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Mental alertness to ensure safe and accurate completion of work activities.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and weights and measures.
  • Knowledge of product variety, standards, perishability, product handling, sanitation, labeling, and department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to operate telephone, pallet jack, hand truck, knives, scissors, grinder, tenderizer, saw, saw blades, and safety cutters.
  • Ability to utilize cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to operate computer software and electronic ordering devices to order product.
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Trim, cut, wrap, tray, grind, and display meat.
  • Build meat and seafood displays, rotate and discard outdated or spoiled products.
  • Ensure cleanliness of work area and department.
  • Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays.
  • Operate and maintain the meat cooler, freezer, and butcher block.
  • Follow and maintain department standards and requirements in handling quick sales items.
  • Understand opening and closing department procedures.
  • Ensure proper code dating for all products within the department.
  • Control shrink and cost.
  • Assist with controlling inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness.
  • Maintain and organize meat cooler and freezer.
  • Implement correct product preparation techniques.
  • Use and operate related equipment such as pallet jack, hand truck, scissors, knives, grinder, saw, saw blades, safety cutters, price labeling machine, and tenderizer.
  • Complete, maintain, and monitor daily log sheets, Production Chart, Meat Grinding Log, Sales and Labor, and other required paperwork and logs.
  • Perform receiving duties including breaking downloads, verifying orders using invoices, inspecting quality, reporting shortages, and stocking and rotating product.
  • Adhere to product temperature and storage guidelines and follow proper packaging techniques.
  • Ensure proper temperature levels for products are maintained.
  • Ensure proper signing of products to include accurate pricing and Country of Origin Labeling (COOL).
  • Comply with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, and company and code dating policies.
  • Comply with all workplace safety rules and regulations.
  • Ensure safety, cleanliness, and sanitation of sales floor, work area, freezer, cooler, equipment, cutting room, and display area.
  • Comply with company grooming standards and dress code.
  • Perform all job duties and responsibilities safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity.
