Requirements

  • Communication – effective interpersonal communication; both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments and utilize good judgement.
  • Butcher experience required.
  • Self-Driven/Motivated throughout shift.
  • Knowledge or interest in learning about natural foods, local vendors, local farms.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands, stay calm, and prioritize.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds repetitively
  • Ability to work in fluctuating temperatures.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate and set priorities with department staff utilizing various techniques such as department huddles and weekly meetings.
  • Assist in the overall coordination, direction and evaluation of departmental activities and provide Meat & Cheese Manager with any recommendations.
  • Support scheduling, to include handling call-offs and absences in department.
  • Model and ensure departmental staff follow policies and procedures.
  • Ensure and maintain the department in a clean, safe and organized fashion and notify supervisor of any maintenance issues.
  • Take the lead in providing on-the-job training of new staff; following staff training guidelines provided.
  • Provide leadership to team members and maintain consistent standards and directives as established by the Meat & Cheese Manager.
  • Participate in inventory counts.
  • Report performance concerns timely and as needed to the Meat & Cheese Manager.
  • Weigh, wrap, display, and price meat and cheese for customers
  • Cut meats and cheeses to specification for display and per customer’s requests.
  • Sharpen and adjust cutting equipment and ensure equipment is in good working condition.
  • Receive product deliveries, ensuring order and invoice accuracy.
  • Inspect products for quality when receiving.
  • Place orders based upon department needs.
  • Stock, rotate, aesthetically organize, merchandize and face products according to department procedure.
  • Ensure that products are properly labeled and dated as per store and department protocol.
  • Assist customers with product questions in a prompt, and courteous manner, referring them to other staff when necessary.
  • Work as part of a team to develop a hospitable department space that feels welcoming to all.
  • Maintain up to date product knowledge in regards to the products we carry.
  • Help customers place special orders.
  • See that unsaleable items are properly disposed of. Keep accurate shrinkage records.
  • Ensure that meat service case, aisles, shelves and storage areas are clean, orderly, and meet health standards.
  • Remove trash promptly; sweep floor as needed.
  • Frequently clean all equipment, including coolers, knives, cutting boards, etc.
  • Follow GreenStar’s safety rules.
  • Assist other employees in safety needs.
  • Report unsafe equipment and conditions timely.
  • Participate in safety training programs.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Attend trainings, meetings, and huddles to stay informed.
  • Read GreenStar publications to stay informed.
  • Uphold and comply with storewide personnel policies.
  • Describe membership benefits, and how membership investment is made.
  • Adhere to scheduled shifts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
