About the position

The Measurement Technician I is responsible for testing, repairing, and maintaining gas meters to ensure accurate flow and pressure measurements. This role involves performing field tests, calibrating equipment, and assisting with installations and repairs of various gas measurement devices. The technician plays a crucial role in maintaining the safety and reliability of gas services provided to customers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field tests on meters for calibration upon institution of service and placement into service.
  • Inspect, test, calibrate and/or repair field test meters, city gate stations, pressure regulating stations and related equipment as scheduled or upon special request.
  • Inspect and repair district and rural regulators and regulators on field-test meters.
  • Inspect and/or repair control valves, pressure relief valves and other over pressure protection equipment.
  • Install, test, calibrate and repair recording instruments such as mechanical volume integrating gauges, recording pressure gauges, electronic correctors, base pressure gauges, recording thermometers and various electronic equipment supported by laptop computer.
  • Install, test and repair telemetering equipment, telephone modems and protective equipment.
  • Coordinate and witness meter tests in conjunction with supplier's measurement personnel.
  • Check and adjust large capacity odorizers and repair as necessary.
  • Adjust distribution system operating pressures as necessary.
  • Assist operations personnel in the installation of large volume meter and regulator sets.
  • Assist operations personnel in up-rating systems, solving pressure problems, etc.
  • Assist with high bill complaint investigations requested by large volume customers.
  • Perform other miscellaneous assignments including calibrating district personnel's pressure gauges, painting stations, pressure study assistance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent knowledge of English, mathematics, punctuation, grammar and spelling.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of natural gas operations experience or a minimum of two (2) years of advanced technical education and/or experience in instrumentation, electronics and/or measurement applications regardless of industry.
  • Valid state driver's license and a good driving record.
