Perform medical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses, and treatment to assigned Medical center in-patients. Work on a rotating basis with the other Hospitalists. Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions. Refer patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate. Direct and coordinate the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required. As appropriate to the position, participate in specified health promotion, education and/or prevention programs. Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards. Provide physician services to assigned Family Care Centers as designed by Medical Center when mutually agreed upon by Physician and Medical Center. Admit patients for hospital stays and attend inpatient consultations in areas of specialty. Communicate with patients' primary care physicians upon admission, when treatment plans change, or at discharge to maintain continuity and quality of care. Diagnose, treat, or provide continuous care to hospital inpatients. Attend inpatient consultations in areas of specialty. Order or interpret the results of tests such as laboratory tests and radiographs (x-rays). Prescribe medications or treatment regimens to hospital inpatients. Train or supervise medical students, residents, or other health professionals. Write patient discharge summaries and send them to primary care physicians. Direct the operations of short stay or specialty units. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Hospitalists are physicians trained in internal medicine that treat patients who are admitted to the hospital. These patients are called inpatients. Patients may be admitted to the hospital through the Emergency Room or their primary care physician or a specialist. Hospitalists are tasked with diagnosing illnesses and disease and providing treatment for inpatients. The type of medical care they provide is internal medicine. The hospitalist will be treating adult patients.
