The City of Lake Worth Beach invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of MD Inspector. This Full-Time Non-Exempt position is based on a 40-hour work week with a pay rate of $32.35 - $43.54. This position is part of the Public Employees Union (PEU) collective bargaining agreement. The individual in this position will work out of the Community Sustainability Building located at 1900 2nd Ave N, Lake Worth Beach, FL 33460.

  • Interprets, applies, and enforces codes for the City of Lake Worth Beach (COLWB).
  • Performs activities within area of certification related to disabled access, electrical, fire sprinkler, gas and/or fuel oil, mechanical, plumbing, and/or zoning.
  • Inspects residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
  • Answers questions and concerns regarding requirements and codes, consulting with contractors, designers, and business and homeowners.
  • Supports the Building Services Division.
  • Reviews blueprints, plans and interprets architectural renderings to ascertain compliance with codes.
  • Informs contractors regarding code requirements.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding plans and code requirements.
  • Performs job site and property inspections related to area of licensure.
  • Researches codes for approval or disapproval of submitted plans.
  • Files new and completed plans; drafts correspondence for disapprovals.
  • Reviews new materials and methods used in building construction.
  • Attends training courses to learn of new codes and other inspection regulations.
  • Provides technical expertise and training as required.
  • Schedules, trains, motivates, and evaluates personnel.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Five (5) years of construction experience or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.
  • A valid Florida driver license.
  • Florida licensure as both an Examiner and Inspector of Building, Residential and Commercial Electrical, Mechanical or Plumbing Plans, or ability to obtain licensure within one (1) year of employment.
  • Knowledge of building, electrical, mechanical, and/or plumbing, zoning, energy, and disabled access codes and regulations.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of the construction industry.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products and applicable department software.
  • Skill in basic math including adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, geometric construction, practical algebra and metrics.
  • Skill in providing good customer service.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
