About The Position

The MCS (Mechanical Circulatory Support) Coordinator is responsible for the comprehensive management of patients with durable and ventricular assist devices. This role involves coordinating care across multidisciplinary teams, providing education and support to patients and their families, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The VAD Coordinator plays a critical role in optimizing patient outcomes and enhancing the overall quality of care for individuals with advanced heart failure.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
• Registered Nurse licensure under the Florida Department of Health.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association or American Red Cross and CHFN (Certified Heart Failure Nurse) (or within 2 years of hire) or VAD-C (Ventricular Assist Device Certified) (or within 2 years of hire).
• Minimum three (3) years of direct nursing care of cardiovascular patients.
• Minimum one (1) year experience in cardiac care, critical care, or VAD management is required

Responsibilities

• Coordinate preoperative evaluation and postoperative management of VAD patients, ensuring continuity of care.
• Act as the primary point of contact for VAD patients and families, providing education, emotional support, and connection to community resources.
• Monitor and evaluate postoperative organ function, identify complications, and implement appropriate interventions.
• Facilitate multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences to ensure seamless patient care across inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Provide direct patient care in VAD clinic, including assessments, documentation, and participation in multidisciplinary rounds.
• Deliver comprehensive education on durable VAD management, device operation, troubleshooting, and lifestyle modifications.
• Coordinate discharge planning and transition to outpatient care, including remote INR monitoring per protocol.
• Collaborate with vendors for device-specific needs and assist with device preparation as required.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, protocol development, and compliance with regulatory standards (Joint Commission, INTERMACS).
• Maintain accurate patient records and contribute to data collection for program metrics and national databases.
• Provide consultative support to referring providers and community healthcare specialists; participate in professional organizations and continuing education.
• Share on-call responsibilities and support temporary MCS transfers from outside facilities.
