The MCR Ingest Engineer plays a crucial role in the technical operations of the station, focusing on the acquisition of live and recorded media through various technologies including Satellite, Fibre, and IP. This position is essential for ensuring the operational stability of the station's media delivery systems, particularly for incoming News and Programs. The engineer will be responsible for managing multiple traffic strands on the fibre and satellite network, ensuring that all systems are functioning optimally to support live broadcasts and recorded content. In addition to operational responsibilities, the MCR Ingest Engineer will engage in incident analysis and activity monitoring, contributing to the implementation of preventive and corrective maintenance plans. This includes participating in system updates and upgrades, assessing changes, and evaluating risks associated with operations. The engineer will also be tasked with providing first and second-level support for various MCR sub-systems, ensuring that services remain ON AIR and that any service-impacting anomalies are promptly addressed. The role requires effective communication with the Facilities Section to coordinate the flow of incoming media, as well as collaboration with field operators to support remote operations. Quality control and transcoding of incoming streams to media servers are also key responsibilities, along with routine testing and maintenance of transmission systems. The engineer will document all issues observed during transmissions and ensure compliance with broadcasting technical standards. Training new staff and contributing to the development of standard operational procedures are additional aspects of this multifaceted role.
