The California Virtual Academies (a network of 9 public charter schools) deliver online/virtual home based instruction to TK-12 students in California. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are still required to complete approximately 4-6 hours of coursework daily & log attendance (entered by their parent/learning coach and verified by the teacher). The mission of California Virtual Academy is to provide an exemplary individualized and engaging educational experience for students by incorporating school and community/family partnerships coupled with a rigorous curriculum along with a data-driven and student-centered instructional model. Student success will be measured by valid and reliable assessment data, parent and student satisfaction, and continued institutional growth within the academic community. Summary: The MckInney Vento & Foster Specialist provides educational support and programs for homeless and foster youth to ensure full and equal opportunity and resources to succeed in school. Virtual schools are new models in public education. They look both backward to what we know works well in educating children, and forward to see how technology can help us implement these strategies with children. Virtual educators are part of a pioneering effort. Our teachers and staff, therefore, need to share the school’s pioneering mission and approach.
