The McConnell Site Lead / Field Engineering Representative (FER) is an on-site position located at McConnell AFB, KS and is responsible for the planning, engineering, and support for Enterprise IT & Cyber Infrastructure Division (AFLCMC/HNI) systems embedded in the Air National Guard (ANG), all ANG bases, and other units as assigned. This role includes the implementation and sustainment of solutions, ensuring system performance, and applying industry-standard concepts, practices, and procedures. This position will work closely with assigned units and will act as a liaison for AFLCMC/HNI. This position requires strong problem-solving abilities, technical expertise, and leadership capabilities to manage operations effectively. The FER must leverage experience and judgment to accomplish goals while leading and directing personnel as necessary. The FER shall facilitate communication between operational communities and sustainment at various locations, provide planning and programming support for all AFLCMC/HNI upgrades and new programs, facilitate operational fielding and integration of AFLCMC/HNI programs, and interface with mission partners within the assigned area of operations.

  • Integrated with mission partners at their respective locations, ensuring visibility and ongoing coordination and support of HNI and OPS mutual items of interest.
  • Coordinate work tasks with AFLCMC/HNI PM's, ANG A6 staff, and other organizations designated by the Government Sustainment PM.
  • Participate in meetings and conferences for HNI supported systems to maintain situational awareness of these programs to enable effective relay of information out to the local units that the FERs represent.
  • Liaison between the operations community and the PMO at meetings, conferences at all AFIN fielded locations.
  • Act as technical field representatives for Sustainment and facilitate communication between the Operational Community (OPS) and AFLCMC/HNI at meetings and conferences.
  • Participate in commander conferences, staff meetings, A6 director calls, IPT calls, section meetings and other relevant unit meetings involving systems and programs supporting the unit's mission involving AFLCMC/HNI deployed systems and cyber infrastructure.
  • Participate in local user meetings (e.g., Daily Ops brief, Operational CCB, Operational Engineering Review Board, Design Review Board, Ticket Review, AFIN Response Center Ticket Review, and Change Advisory Board) as necessary relaying relevant information between Sustainment and the local unit at these meetings.
  • Keep MAJCOM, NOS and/or base personnel informed on HNI program status, progress, issues, and planning schedules.
  • Provide the Government Sustainment PM with any MAJCOM or base program status issues, concerns, or questions regarding HNI program progress, issues, and planning schedules along with potential resolutions to these issues.
  • Support the ARC with OPS incident updates, communication, remediation, and escalations.
  • Continuously promote awareness of Sustainment services and benefits to the OPS community.
  • Provide a monthly FER Field Report including a summary of all work accomplished and the impact of this work, description of ongoing issues/risks experienced in the field status of prior month's FER Request Form.
  • Aid in the planning, engineering support and troubleshooting for all AFLCMC/HNI projects, programs, and weapon systems sustainment actions.
  • Provide on/offsite engineering efforts, such as equipment, configuration, troubleshooting, and installations.
  • Assist in TO and TCTO validations/verifications prior to release for implementation.
  • Create change requests within Enterprise IT Service Management and Authorized Service Interruptions to support AFLCMC/HNI projects.
  • Travel to any base to support the PMO/OPS mission (Travel up to 20%).
  • Plan, design, and implement network and systems infrastructure solutions.
  • Monitor system performance, identify risks, and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure the stability and efficiency of hardware and software systems within the operational environment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  • Supervise, lead, and direct work as necessary for site-specific operations.
  • Employ engineering best practices to meet operational requirements.
  • Provide status updates and reports on performance and technical concerns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the program management staff and Sr. Field Operations Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with DoD, Air Force, and industry security standards.
  • Maintain operational readiness in accordance with procedures and policies.
  • Assist in conducting risk assessments and applying mitigation strategies.
  • A degree in a related field and a minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience or a total of at least eight (8) years of relevant experience.
  • Experience supporting DoD Information Network, AFIN or equivalent.
  • Information Assurance (IA) Technician (IAT) Level II Certification.
  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundation (v3 or higher).
  • A valid and current SECRET (or higher) security clearance.
