About The Position

The main purpose of this full-time contractual position will be to serve in the department’s effort to fulfill the Board’s mission of protecting the public. The Investigations Agent will develop and be responsible for complaints to the Maryland Board of Nursing regarding a potential breach of the standards of nursing practice as they relate to violations of the Nurse Practice Act. This is a full performance level of work conducting investigations of licensed health care practitioners. This is a major component in fulfilling our mission to protect the public. Additionally, this position will require: Knowledge of general acceptable standards of health care procedures and policies; Exceptional research and organizational skills; and Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of healthcare.

Requirements

  • Five years of experience conducting investigations in the areas of health care, insurance, medical malpractice or other related investigative experience as defined by Maryland Board of Physicians.
  • Knowledge of general acceptable standards of health care procedures and policies
  • Exceptional research and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of healthcare

  • Experience in assessing accurate documentation and record keeping
  • Experience communicating effectively with patients, professionals, other healthcare workers (including co-workers and staff of other agencies), and the public
  • Experience with independently planning, organizing, and executing assigned tasks
  • Experience exercising independent judgment and discretion regarding assigned tasks
  • Experience preparing and presenting reports and/or recommendations clearly and concisely
  • Experience maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Technological experience including the basic uses and capabilities of computers, information technology and data security

Responsibilities

  • Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.
  • As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled.
  • The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits.
  • You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
  • Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
