About The Position

The Yard Foreman is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of material handling activities on the job site or facility. This role supervises material handlers and laborers, ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely receipt, storage, tracking, and distribution of materials and equipment. The Materials Foreman works closely with project management, procurement, and construction crews to support schedules and maintain accurate inventory control.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or certifications preferred.
  • 3–5 years of experience in materials handling, warehouse, or logistics, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Knowledge of construction materials, such as steel, pipe, fittings, valves, and equipment.
  • Experience with material tracking systems, inventory control, and basic reporting.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, drawings, and material specifications.
  • Forklift or crane operator certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the work of material handlers, equipment operators, and laborers assigned to materials management.
  • Ensure all materials are received, inspected, documented, and stored in accordance with company policies and project specifications.
  • Plan and oversee the movement of materials and equipment to designated work areas to meet project and production schedules.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and tracking of all materials, including steel, pipe, fittings, tools, and consumables.
  • Coordinate with procurement, warehouse staff, and project managers to verify material requirements, shortages, and deliveries.
  • Assign and monitor daily work tasks, providing guidance and training to crew members.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, and quality standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections of material storage areas, tools, and equipment to ensure safety and readiness.
  • Prepare and maintain material handling reports, delivery records, and usage logs.
  • Operate forklifts, cranes, or other equipment needed to support material handling operations.
  • Lead daily safety meetings and enforce housekeeping standards in storage and staging areas.
  • Serve as a liaison between site supervision and materials management staff.
