About The Position

OAKLAND UNITY HIGH SCHOOL (OUHS) was founded in 2003 as an independent charter high school open to all students in Oakland. The mission of OUHS is to prepare its students for admission to and success in college and career. We are a small school with high expectations and a safe and nurturing environment for teaching and learning. Over the years OUHS has established itself as a high impact school and is one of the highest achieving Oakland high schools. The school annually enrolls approximately 300 students in grades 9-12. Over 85% of Unity students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and over 75% come from immigrant families whose home language is not English. Unity offers a rigorous curriculum and intensive support responsive to the individual developmental and academic needs of students, which allows them to achieve academic success and positive social/cultural development.

Requirements

  • Valid California secondary subject-matter credential, or qualify for the intern program and pass the required CSET test(s)
  • Ability to participate in teamwork and shared decision-making.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in technology

Responsibilities

  • Commit to our core mission, with the underlying belief that all students can and will attend college
  • Serve as grade level advisors and committed mentors to a cohort of students
  • Set and maintain high academic and behavioral expectations for all students
  • Maintain professional and respectful relationships with students, peers, families, and community members
  • Commit to data driven instruction
  • Participate in weekly staff development and team meetings
  • Develop and uphold established school policies, protocols, and procedures
