About The Position

The Mathematics Teacher at Bellarmine Preparatory School is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in mathematics to students, fostering a positive and engaging learning environment, and contributing to the overall academic and moral development of students. The teacher should embody the values and principles of Jesuit education, emphasizing the Ignatian philosophy of cura personalis (care for the whole person) and the Jesuit commitment to academic excellence, service, and justice.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mathematics or a related field.
  • Teaching certification or relevant education credentials.
  • Previous teaching experience, preferably at the high school level.
  • Familiarity with Jesuit education principles and a commitment to Bellarmine’s mission.
  • Ability to teach various mathematics courses and age levels.
  • Understanding of educational theory and practice.
  • Ability to teach a range of courses offered by the department.
  • Ability to use current learning management technology.
  • Commitment to working with a diverse student body.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and a commitment to collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development: Design and implement a challenging and comprehensive mathematics curriculum that aligns with state standards and the school's mission.
  • Integrate Ignatian values and principles into the mathematics curriculum, fostering critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and a commitment to social justice.
  • Instruction and Classroom Management: Deliver effective and engaging mathematics lessons that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and collaboration.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods, technology, and real-world examples to make mathematical concepts relevant and accessible to students.
  • Assessment and Feedback: Evaluate student performance through assessments, projects, and examinations.
  • Use formative assessment to inform instruction and help students self-assess their progress and summative assessments.
  • Assessments designed with the professional learning community.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students, helping them understand their strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Student Support: Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect and understanding.
  • Provide additional help and support to students who may be struggling with mathematical concepts.
  • Collaborate with student support programs including counselors, tutors, testing center to implement early intervention and promote acceleration.
  • Encourage and facilitate student participation in extracurricular mathematics activities, such as math clubs or competitions.
  • Jesuit Values: Integrate Ignatian values into daily interactions and classroom activities.
  • Actively contribute to the spiritual and moral development of students in alignment with Jesuit principles.
  • Collaboration and Professional Development: Collaborate with colleagues to create interdisciplinary learning experiences and to create a cohesive and supportive educational environment.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and incorporate innovative instructional strategies.
  • Strong collaboration in professional learning communities that work towards common goals.
  • Stay informed and current with developments in the field of mathematics education.
  • Community Involvement and Engagement Communicate effectively with parents, keeping them informed about students' progress and any concerns.
  • Actively participate in the school's faith community, attending religious events, Masses, and service projects.
  • Actively participate in supporting the school’s admission efforts.
  • Engage with the wider community to promote the school's mission and values.
  • Organize and participate in math-related events, fairs, and community outreach initiatives.
