The Mathematics Instructor position at Phillips Exeter Academy is a full-time role for the 2025/2026 school year, aimed at passionate educators who are eager to engage with motivated high school students in a collaborative teaching environment. The role involves teaching a variety of pre-college mathematics courses through calculus, with a preference for candidates interested in post-calculus instruction. In addition to teaching, instructors are expected to participate actively in the school's academic, athletic, co-curricular, and residential programs, fostering a supportive and inclusive community.

  • Teach four classes per trimester, focusing on student-centered discussions around a Harkness table.
  • Demonstrate respect for diversity of identities and experiences, and promote equity and inclusion in all aspects of Academy life.
  • Participate in residential life by residing in campus housing and fulfilling dormitory duties, including one weekend per month and one to two nights per week.
  • Serve as a mentor to student advisees, acting as the main liaison between the advisee's family and the Academy.
  • Engage in extracurricular activities such as coaching, advising student clubs, and participating in committee work.
  • An advanced degree in mathematics, education, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of classroom teaching experience, with equivalent experience considered.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and serving the needs of a diverse community.
  • Willingness to enforce all school policies and rules governing student behavior.
  • Interest in teaching at the post-calculus level is preferred.
  • Enthusiasm for working with adolescents both inside and outside of the classroom.
