About The Position

The instructional coach is responsible for supporting the professional growth and development of K-6 teachers to facilitate learning and independent application of effective instructional practices. The instructional coach provides job-embedded support through classroom observations, descriptive feedback, modeling, data analysis, and planning across content areas. The instructional coach plans and conducts staff development based on assessed building and/or teacher needs. The instructional coach works collaboratively with the Coordinator of Mathematics to support the professional growth and development of K-6 teachers.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of teaching and learning
  • Demonstrated knowledge of techniques and strategies used to support adult learners
  • Demonstrated ability to use data to increase the effectiveness of teachers through lesson plan development, professional development, and modeling best practices
  • Ability to develop and present ideas effectively, orally and in written form
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, PowerPoint and Excel and the use of other technology tools
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other administrative staff, subordinates, supervisors, the School Board, and the general public
  • Five years of experience as a classroom teacher is a prerequisite for this position
  • The applicant must hold or be eligible for licensure in Virginia
  • A Mathematics Specialist endorsement is required

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the individual and collective needs of teachers at assigned school(s)
  • Creates a comprehensive and systematic plan to support the professional growth of teachers
  • Models effective instructional techniques and strategies that engage learners
  • Provides instructional coaching through observation of instruction and delivery of timely and appropriate feedback
  • Assists with writing exemplary lesson plans to serve as a model
  • Assists with the development of classroom, school, and district-level curriculum
  • Works collaboratively to help teachers analyze data and plan targeted and appropriate lessons
  • Works collaboratively with core content program specialists to identify needs and develop a plan of support
  • Models and provides support for classroom motivation and management to help teachers establish classroom environments conducive to learning
  • Plans and conducts high-quality professional development activities for school and district staff based on identified needs
  • Stays abreast of current developments, research, and new technology to enhance teaching and learning
  • Attends required staff development activities, instructional coach meetings, and other meetings as deemed necessary
  • Assists with monitoring inventories of instructional resources
  • Works with students as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
