About The Position

The Mathematics Department at Bellevue College is seeking applications for an ongoing pool of applicants interested in teaching part-time for pre-college level and college level Math courses in Winter 2025-2026 term. Note that these are temporary faculty positions, typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment. The Science Division at Bellevue College is organized into seven programs: Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Molecular Biosciences, Engineering, Computer Science, and Earth & Space Science. The Mathematics Department consists of nineteen full-time faculty and a number of quarterly-contracted faculty. Over three hundred sections of mathematics are offered annually ranging from pre-algebra through linear algebra, differential equations, and discrete math. These courses support professional technical programs, transfer degree programs, and four-year degree programs at Bellevue College (including Computer Science and Data Analytics). Members of the department participate in professional activities at both the regional and national levels. The program strives to build a supportive and encouraging community for both faculty and students and is committed to putting student success at the center of every decision. Requirements

  • BA/BS in Mathematics, Secondary Mathematics Education, or in a related field with significant Math coursework.
  • Documented successful teaching experience in Math.
  • Ability to relate to students and staff of varied ethnicity, ages, backgrounds, and abilities, and a commitment to a culturally diverse environment.
  • Ability to teach classes onsite.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and colleagues
  • Ability and willingness to adapt to changing teaching schedules and situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters in Math or in a related field with significant graduate Math coursework.
  • Documented successful community college teaching experience in Math both onsite and remotely.
  • Knowledge of current curriculum, teaching, and assessment practices.
  • Ability and willingness to employ continuous improvement in curriculum, teaching, and assessment.
  • Willingness to participate in college initiatives/governance.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • teach on campus, as dictated by program need, course schedule, and enrollment demand
  • be available to students periodically outside of class

  • maintain high standards regarding course content
  • provide students with timely feedback on their course work and examinations
  • adhere to program assessment practices and policies
