Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board. Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses. Virginia Western Community College, located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Roanoke Valley, is accepting applications for part-time Mathematics Adjunct Faculty in the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Adjunct faculty positions are appointed on a course-by-course, semester basis as needed. Mathematics adjunct faculty are needed to teach college-level courses in-person on the main Virginia Western campus. Faculty are expected to maintain currency in their teaching disciplines and in trends in community college education.

  • Teach college-level Mathematics courses in-person on the main Virginia Western campus.
  • Maintain currency in teaching disciplines and trends in community college education.
  • Develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments.
  • Write syllabi and exams.
  • Assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
  • Must possess a Master's degree in Mathematics or a Master's degree in any field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Mathematics courses.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.
  • Doctorate degree in Mathematics.
  • Teaching experience at the college level.
  • Part-time position with a pay rate determined based on qualifications.
  • Flexible work schedule based on course offerings and enrollment.
