This notice is issued under direct-hire authority to recruit new talent to occupations for which NIST has a severe shortage of candidates.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service
  • Suitable for Federal employment
  • Degree in mathematics or equivalent major with at least 24 semester hours in mathematics.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level (ZP-II at NIST) in mathematical formulation and analysis of models and numerical solutions of problems.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's or equivalent graduate degree in a related field
  • Experience in ordinary and partial differential equations, applied to problems such as boundary value problems, inverse problems, integral equations, analytical mechanics, nonlinear mechanics, computational fluid dynamics, or stochastic processes.

Responsibilities

  • Apply the principles and tools of applied data science to the study of heterogeneous modular DNA origami sensors, including the assessment of specificity and signal-to-noise ratio in such devices.
  • Plan and carry out complex assignments with limited supervision, developing new methods and procedures in collaboration with mathematicians and experimentalists.
  • Work closely with peers to understand the analysis requirements of these devices and performs follow-on analyses, providing recommendations for improvements to meet program objectives.
  • Prepare technical reports and deliver presentations on ongoing projects, thereby contributing to the technical planning, execution, and oversight of significant scientific and engineering initiatives.
