About The Position

Primary Purpose: Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Coach Role Primary Purpose: Direct and manage assigned program areas of extracurricular and intramural athletics for the district. Provide each student with the opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity and ensure compliance with all federal, state, University Interscholastic League (UIL), and local requirements.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI)
Applicants with one or more areas of certification: SpED, Social Studies, Art, AVID, or DAEP)
Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
CDL certification is required.
Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Knowledge of overall operations of athletic program
Knowledge of federal, state, and UIL policies governing athletics
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Ability to interpret data
Ability to manage budget and personnel
Excellent public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
2 years successful teaching and coaching experience

Responsibilities

Instructional Strategies Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences.
Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
Plan and assign work to instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.
Student Growth and Development Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.
Classroom Management and Organization Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
Communication Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
Professional Growth and Development Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Other Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
This position may be partially or fully funded through state or federal grants.

Direct and manage assigned areas of the district’s athletic program.
Maintain an active program that promotes good sportsmanship and student development including the time, resources, and materials to support accomplishment of department goals.
Maintain physical and academic eligibility requirements for participation in each sport, and verify each athlete’s eligibility.
Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to gauge athletic program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs.
Manage assigned athletic operations including overseeing ticket sales, monitoring game officials, and ensuring preparation of facilities.
Attend district athletic contests.
Prepare and recommend interscholastic game schedules for areas assigned.
Arrange transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town athletic events.
Monitor the process of cleaning, sanitizing, repairing, and storing athletic equipment.
Implement district student management policies, communicate expected student behavior related to athletics, and ensure enforcement of student discipline in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Establish and maintain open lines of communication on vital issues with parents, students, and teachers.
Implement the policies established by federal law, state law, State Board of Education rule, UIL rules, and local board policy in area of athletics.
Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Develop and administer budget for areas assigned based on documented needs and ensure that operations are cost effective and funds are managed wisely.
Maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment and recommend disposal and replacement of equipment.
Prepare, review, and revise job descriptions for assigned area.
Select, train, supervise, and evaluate athletic department personnel in assigned area and make recommendations relative to placement, assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
Demonstrate awareness of district and community needs, initiate activities to meet those needs, and use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
Support athletic booster club activities.
