About The Position

The Math or Science Substitute Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year is responsible for implementing lesson plans left by the classroom teacher while ensuring the integrity of academic time in a manner that motivates students to learn and participate. This role requires the ability to create and maintain a climate of respect and fairness for all students, demonstrating fair and ethical judgment. The substitute teacher will maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff, in accordance with school and district policies.

Requirements

• Must hold a current Kansas Certified Teacher License, Standard Substitute License, or Emergency Substitute Teacher License.
• Applicants must meet the Kansas State Department of Education certification requirements.
• Knowledge and skills in proper English usage, grammar, vocabulary, spelling, punctuation, and basic math.
• Ability to follow oral and written directions.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students.
• Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies.

Responsibilities

• Implement lesson plans left by the classroom teacher while ensuring the integrity of academic time.
• Create and maintain a climate of respect and fairness for all students.
• Maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment.
• Apply appropriate consequences for inappropriate student behaviors.
• Display problem-solving, cooperative negotiating skills, and conflict resolution strategies.
• Maintain and respect confidentiality of student, school personnel, and parent information.
• Ensure adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s).
• Prepare lesson plans and do other related work as required for long-term substitute positions.
