About The Position

The Elementary Catholic School Math Interventionist plays a vital role in supporting students who require additional instruction to achieve grade-level proficiency in mathematics. Rooted in the mission of Catholic education, the Math Interventionist provides targeted, small-group and individual instruction to K-8 students in order to address learning gaps, build confidence, and promote a growth mindset in math. Working in collaboration with classroom teachers, administrators, and families, the Math Interventionist helps ensure that all students are given the support they need to succeed academically while being formed in faith and virtue.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of elementary mathematics content and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Knowledge of intervention strategies, response to intervention (RTI), and progress monitoring tools.
  • Ability to analyze student assessment data and use it to inform instruction.
  • Collaborative approach to working with teachers, administrators, and families.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to fostering a Catholic school culture of care, respect, and academic excellence.
  • Proficient in using hands-on math manipulatives and instructional technology/digital tools to support math learning.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
  • Valid teaching certification; certification in elementary education or mathematics preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of successful teaching experience, preferably in math or in an interventionist/specialist role.
  • Availability for occasional evening or weekend events as needed.
  • Understanding of Catholic teachings.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction, Special Education, or Mathematics Education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Catholic identity and mission of the school by modeling Gospel values and incorporating faith into daily interactions with students and staff.
  • Provide direct, targeted math instruction to small groups or individual students who are performing below grade level or need intervention support.
  • Use a variety of assessments and data sources to identify students in need of support, monitor progress, and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to align intervention plans with core classroom instruction and to support differentiated learning strategies.
  • Design and implement evidence-based interventions that address specific learning gaps and build conceptual understanding and computational fluency.
  • Track and document student progress, maintaining accurate and timely records for internal use and parent communication.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and strategies for at-home reinforcement.
  • Participate in student support (MTSS) meetings and contribute to the development of academic intervention plans.
  • Coordinate or assist with benchmark testing and school-wide assessments related to math achievement.
  • Stay informed about research-based intervention strategies and effective math teaching practices through ongoing professional development.
  • Encourage a positive attitude toward mathematics by fostering student confidence, perseverance, and curiosity.
  • Support and participate in school-wide events and liturgies as an active member of the Catholic school community.
