About The Position

Math Center tutors assist with answering students' math questions on a drop-in basis. Students who visit the Math Center may be enrolled in classes that range from Introductory Algebra to Differential Equations, with the majority of students being in College Algebra.

Requirements

  • Must be a FRCC student enrolled in at least 6 credits for the current semester
  • Applicants do not have to qualify for work-study funds from Financial Aid.
  • Math Center Student Hourlies should have completed Calculus I or higher with an A.
  • Math Center Student Hourlies should have a strong understanding and fluency of mathematics and its notation, ranging from basic math to Calculus.
  • They should also have the desire and ability to patiently communicate math concepts to others, including those who struggle to learn math.

Nice To Haves

  • Ideally, they would also have their instructor's recommendation to work in the Math Center.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure students sign in and sign out to help keep track of traffic in the Math Center at different times and days throughout the semester
  • Work alongside another instructor and/or student hourly to answer students' math questions from a wide range of courses
  • Submit bi-weekly timesheets to report hours worked in the Math Center, as well as leave requests for any absences that occur
