About The Position

Inova is looking for dedicated Maternal Fetal Medicine Sonographers to join the team. We have PRN, Part-time and Full-time positions available across multiple sites. Requirements

  • Certification - Basic Life Support (BLS) Upon Start.
  • Successful completion of the Inova Nuchal Translucency (NT) Program is required within 6 months for team members without the Nuchal Translucency Certification.
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Obstetrics & Gynecology Upon Start.
  • Two years of hospital or doctor's office-based experience in the performance of specialized maternal-fetal sonography detecting fetal anomalies.
  • High School diploma or equivalent; Degree from Accredited Sonography Training Program.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates effectively with the patient to obtain clinical maternal-fetal history/informed consent from the patient or patient's chart to assist the physician in optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination.
  • Explains the procedure to patients/families and answers any questions to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation.
  • Assists the physicians in performing CVS, Amniocentesis, and image optimization studies using departmental protocols.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of proper sterile techniques and isolation precautions as they pertain to the various specialty procedures.
  • Recognizes clinical and/or emergent problems in maternal-fetal patients that may interfere with exams and takes appropriate action.
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of maternal fetal ultrasound principles and theory.
  • Utilizes fetal anatomical knowledge to position patients to optimize image quality during examination.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills and enhances the procedure with additional modalities and views based on identified disease processes and fetal anomalies.
  • Independently utilizes analytical abilities to determine the selection of images that are presented to the physician for interpretation.
  • Accurately measures maternal fetal area structures and pathology to further determine the direction of the exam.
  • Provides clinical services according to specialized maternal fetal ultrasound practice standards to detect fetal anomalies.
  • Records all data, images and technical notes that provide the preliminary report to facilitate the physician's ability to interpret the information.
  • Correctly identifies patients and their files ensuring a high degree of accuracy.
  • Tracks patients according to department procedures and identifies errors for immediate correction.
