About The Position

Maternal Education Consultant functions as a resource to patients and their families from pregnancy to birth and beyond.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in Nursing.
• Maintains current Registered Nurse (RN) license by the Florida Department of Health - renewed bi-annually.
• Must have and maintain one of the following certifications: International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC).
• Maintains current BLS certification.
• Two (2) years' experience in maternal education consulting, or clinical experience with an obstetric, neonatal or pediatric specialty required.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the development, coordination, presentation and evaluation of perinatal education and support for parents and professionals in a variety of settings.
• Identifies and provides resources for continuing education in lactation.
• Facilitates systematic problem solving related to lactation in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team, the client and her family.
• Fosters ongoing breastfeeding support via telephone and/or at mother's groups.
• Completes and updates breast pump and scale rental contracts. Processes payments, enters, updates and reconciles in rental database.
• Performs inventory of rental and retail items. Performs inventory of class supplies and prepares materials.
• Responsible for cleaning and checking the performance of returned rental equipment.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
