About the position

The Materials Supervisor is responsible for supervising daily activities of materials personnel to ensure safe and efficient storage and retrieval of supplies/components/resources to satisfy internal and external customer requirements. This role involves overseeing the activities of Material Handling personnel, monitoring production material to ensure adequate inventory levels, and assisting cycle counters to ensure accurate inventory accountability. The supervisor will also monitor suppliers and commercial carriers to ensure that delivery schedules are consistently met, and any errors are rectified on a timely basis. Additionally, the supervisor is responsible for updating and maintaining computer data to ensure database integrity, planning goals and individual development with each direct report, and reviewing employee performance while coaching employees regularly. The role includes identifying opportunities for Continuous Improvement and ensuring that these activities are planned, implemented, measured, reported, and reviewed in the respective area of responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the activities of Material Handling personnel and assist when necessary.
  • Monitor production material to ensure adequate inventory levels.
  • Monitor and report receipts and other inventory-related data on the computer.
  • Assist cycle counters to ensure accurate inventory accountability.
  • Monitor suppliers and commercial carriers to ensure delivery schedules are met.
  • Update and maintain computer data (e.g., trailer maps, warehouse locations) to ensure database integrity.
  • Plan goals and individual development with each direct report.
  • Arrange for and follow up on special pick-ups and deliveries.
  • Review employee performance and coach employees regularly.
  • Communicate unresolved issues to Human Resources and develop action plans.
  • Identify opportunities for Continuous Improvement and ensure activities are planned and reviewed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Level Degree in Electric, Mechanical and/or Industrial Engineering Administration, Materials, and/or Logistics or similar.
  • 2-5 years of experience within the field.
  • 1-3 years of experience within the automotive industry.
  • Must be able and willing to travel if needed.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Proficient organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral communication skills.
