We currently seek a Materials Scientist/Engineer to help support our Norcross, GA location. This entry-level position requires a highly motivated individual to work in a laboratory and production environment in a growing optical fiber manufacturing facility. Potential exists for growth into a Lead Materials Development Engineer within a 5-10 year timeframe.
Requirements
- B.S. degree in Materials Science, Polymer Science, or Chemical Engineering
- Materials testing experience in a laboratory environment
- Coursework or experience in Polymer Science, Materials Characterization, Polymer Rheology preferred
Nice To Haves
- Experience with materials characterization techniques with preference for tensile and fatigue testing
- Must enjoy hands-on work
- Ability to multi-task and adjust priorities based on needs of the business
- Proficient in basic computer functions (Office, web)
- Excellent communication, time-management, and documentation skills
Responsibilities
- Work in a materials and quality laboratory next to the production floor
- Perform testing of optical fibers to characterize their physical, mechanical and optical properties.
- Work with senior engineers to develop new UV curable materials and processes for optical fiber applications
- Draft reports, power point presentations, present results in team meetings
- Work effectively in a team environment
- Ability to work under high pressure and manage challenging deadlines
