Type One Energy Group is mission-driven to provide sustainable, affordable fusion power to the world. Established in 2019 and venture-backed in 2023, the company is led by a team of globally recognized fusion scientists with a strong track record of building state-of-the-art stellarator fusion machines, together with veteran business leaders experienced in scaling companies and commercializing energy technologies We are seeking a Materials Scientist with expertise in ceramics fabrication, including lithium-based ceramics, powder processing, milling, microsphere fabrication, and advanced characterization methods (SEM, TEM, XRD, etc.). The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in ceramic materials development from industry, academic research, or national labs. You will play a critical role in developing ceramic breeder materials for deployment on the Infinity Two Fusion Pilot Plant, including leading programs for fabrication, scale-up, and lifetime evaluation under fusion-relevant conditions. Additional responsibilities include supporting structural and functional materials selection for breeder blanket components and other stellarator power plant subsystems.

  • Develop and optimize fabrication processes for lithium-based ceramics, including powder processing, milling, and microsphere production.
  • Conduct research and analysis on material composition, microstructure, and properties under fusion-relevant conditions.
  • Plan and execute testing campaigns to verify material performance under relevant conditions and over service lifetimes.
  • Utilize advanced characterization techniques (SEM, TEM, XRD, etc.) for microstructural and property evaluation.
  • Collaborate with vendors and partners to scale up manufacturing processes while maintaining strict quality control.
  • Work cross-functionally to integrate new materials into stellarator system development.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and publications to share findings.
  • Foster collaboration with internal teams and external partners, including academic and research institutions.
  • Advanced degree in Materials Science, Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • Expertise in ceramic materials processing and characterization (lithium-based ceramics preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with powder processing, milling, and microsphere fabrication.
  • Familiarity with advanced characterization techniques (SEM, TEM, XRD, etc.).
  • Proficiency in project planning and execution, including considerations towards identification of scope, resource requirements, and scheduling,
