About The Position

The Materials Planner at TriMas Corporation plays a crucial role in optimizing productivity by identifying and planning the necessary supplies and materials. This position serves as the primary contact for vendors, responsible for negotiating supply contracts, researching new material sources, and ensuring timely delivery schedules. The Materials Planner also sets price points for product sales and adjusts them based on the costs associated with acquiring, storing, and transporting materials.

Requirements

  • Experience in materials planning or supply chain management.
  • Strong negotiation skills with vendors and suppliers.
  • Proficiency in inventory management and forecasting techniques.
  • Ability to maintain electronic records and manage procurement activities.
  • Knowledge of import/export compliance and HTS codes.

  • Experience with MRP systems and inventory management software.
  • Familiarity with freight invoicing and logistics management.
  • Strong analytical skills for performance reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with other managers to determine supply needs.
  • Ensures the purchase of supplies and materials are completed within specifications.
  • Oversees the distribution of supplies in the organization.
  • Controls inventory levels and ensures availability of material during emergencies using safety stock calculations.
  • Maintains supplier relationships and negotiates pricing and services to ensure quality product is received 100% on time in full.
  • Manages the supplier relationship to ensure performance is monitored and decisions are based on this performance.
  • Maintains electronic records on procurement activity, materials quantity, specifications, etc.
  • Assists in forecasting to plan future purchase orders based on demand.
  • Advises on import/export compliance and HTS codes as needed, working with brokers on issues.
  • Facilitates quarterly floor stock inventories and cycle counting to ensure accurate inventory in MRP.
  • Reviews freight invoicing for New Albany/US Dispensing and manages exceptions.
  • Ensures team members are successfully trained to meet service and product quality expectations according to policies and procedures.
  • Manages inventory spreadsheets and online forecasts.
  • Ensures daily, weekly, and monthly performance reporting against key metrics.
