The Materials Manager will manage the Materials and Quality Assurance Departments' activities to support the objectives of the Claxton, Georgia plant. Incumbent will provide guidance and support to all departments at the Claxton site. These activities include forecasting material requirements, production planning, scheduling, inventory control, shop floor dispatching, material handling and storage, all functions ensuring the quality of product, and the shipping operation. This includes the managing of all aspects of quality for both manufactured and purchased product. Proper management of the materials department will allow the plant's investment in inventory to remain low and, at the same time, provide a high level of customer service. This will allow the facility to operate in a smooth and efficient manner. Policies and procedures will be developed and followed allowing both the department personnel and the business organization to operate in an organized and professional manner while assuring the customer receives a quality product delivered on time.

  • Direct the departmental activities to meet or exceed profit goals of the plant.
  • Manage the development of and maintain requirements forecast of the plant.
  • Develop the master production schedule, long-range material requirements plan, and the long and short-range capacity plan.
  • Manage the scheduling of incoming customer sales orders in a timely and logical manner.
  • Monitor and coordinate all activities between production control, manufacturing, traffic, and shipping and provides as a liaison between marketing and production control on schedule changes and special handling of important sales orders.
  • Manage the preparation and coordination of the shop floor schedules and the dispatching of material between sequences and departments.
  • Supervise preparation of the weekly traffic and shipping schedules, tracks and reports performance to ship date, dollars cleared daily, weekly, month to date, and dollars cleared versus dollars invoiced.
  • Monitor status on all open sales orders: Past due, current due, future due, and back-orders.
  • Monitor manufacturing performance to the agreed upon production plan and shipping schedules. Recommend corrective action as required to insure a high level of on-time customer shipments.
  • Define and maintain, together with the Manager of Purchasing, the inventory ordering policy.
  • Direct departmental cycle counts and coordinate results with the staff inventory accounting group, adjusts inventory records, and coordinates error correction and prevention.
  • Maintain Inventory Projection Report, identifies and disposes of excess and obsolete inventory.
  • Identify and analyze specific problems associated with information flow, data collection, and existing computer systems.
  • Provide direction and training for all department personnel.
  • Ensure that all company policies are followed in respect to department employee matters such as discipline, performance evaluations, promotions, and terminations.
  • Ensure that all material handling and shipping equipment is operated in a safe and efficient manner consistent with company policy.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on both the actual and forecasted customer backlog.
  • Prepare and implement short-term shipping forecasts that will be used to project plant profits for the Bartow location.
  • Manage all aspects of ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Help develop and implement the annual site SBO Plan.
  • Conduct annual safety performance reviews of direct reports.
  • Develop a quality system that provides a product that meets or exceeds customer expectations.
  • Proven managerial skills (previous management/supervisory related work history).
  • BS/BA degree in logistics or relevant field, or five years' experience in manufacturing, marketing, or material control management.
  • Willingness to pursue a certification with APICS.
  • Must have a thoughtful understanding of MRP (Material Requirements Planning), inventory management, material handling and storage, shop floor control, and shipping techniques.
  • APICS CPIM or CSCP certification.
  • Extensive ERP system experience, particularly with QAD.
  • The ability to understand and evaluate the integrity of business supply processes.
  • Master's degree in business, supply chain or statistics.
