About The Position

The Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing the shipping, receiving, warehouse, inventory control, and production control activities within a manufacturing environment. This role ensures that materials flow safely and efficiently throughout the plant, meeting customer goals in a timely manner while maintaining compliance with safety standards and operational guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of managerial experience in materials management and inventory control, preferably in the automotive industry.
  • Superior planning and organizational skills.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, and geometry.

Responsibilities

  • Directing and coordinating activities of shipping, receiving, warehouse, inventory control, and production control.
  • Supervising and maintaining labor hours for a staff of indirect labors.
  • Ensuring safe, timely, and accurate material flow in to the plant, between departments, and out of the plant.
  • Attaining 5S objectives and performing 5S maintenance throughout the plant.
  • Performing and delegating all tasks in the shipping and receiving functional area.
  • Enforcing safety rules and guidelines associated with OSHA standards.
  • Observing indirect labors to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Performing safety, dock, and forklift audits as required.
  • Training, testing, and certifying all material handlers.
  • Monitoring and maintaining proper hours for assigned indirect staff members in the payroll system.
  • Receiving all trucks and processing the paperwork required for inventory accuracy.
  • Ensuring all shipping and receiving procedures are understood and adhered to.
  • Ensuring carrier window time conformance and receipt accuracy.
  • Coordinating and segregating all potential non-conforming material within the facility.
  • Handling all personnel issues within the Material Handling function.
  • Reviewing production schedule and scheduling delivery dates to plan department operations.
  • Interacting with appropriate departments regarding material-related issues.
  • Conducting and participating in continuous improvement and problem-solving activities.
  • Reporting inventory levels, accuracy, and turns.
  • Measuring vendor and shipping performance.
  • Reviewing material flow and schedule of work consistently.
  • Establishing long-term goals for production control and material handlers.
  • Making decisions regarding work processes, priorities, and resource allocation.
