About The Position

The Materials Manager is responsible for directing and supporting procurement operations to ensure the timely delivery of raw and purchased components, superior quality, and competitive pricing. This role involves coordinating the activities of personnel engaged in purchasing and distributing raw materials, components, and supplies within the organization. The Materials Manager will develop, implement, and maintain effective policies and procedures for purchasing, MRO buying, VMI, Capital Requests, and all other material-related activities. Establishing long-term goals for each Materials Buyer team member and measuring their results in task completion and thoroughness of work is a key responsibility. In addition, the Materials Manager will direct, plan, and implement systems to ensure that customer production requirements are met or surpassed. This includes providing support to the General Manager and other management staff members to achieve company goals. The role requires preparing instructions regarding purchasing systems and procedures, arranging for the disposal and disposition of surplus material, and reviewing and approving requisitions and purchase orders. The Materials Manager will analyze market and delivery conditions to determine present and future raw material availability, cost and price variances, and prepare market analysis reports. The position also involves conducting vendor audits, certifying vendors for inclusion on the approved vendor list, and developing programs to secure new suppliers and materials in a timely and cost-effective manner. Successful negotiation of prices, discounts, delivery dates, and other items with suppliers of raw materials and component parts is essential. The Materials Manager will establish sourcing strategies, support new product schedules, and maintain continuity of supply for current products. Additionally, managing inventories to ensure product availability while minimizing inventory levels is a critical aspect of this role. This includes overseeing the cycle count program, E&O review, and continuous improvement of inventory turns. The Materials Manager will also create and improve IQMS processes to ensure adequate stocks of materials, on time, within specification, and at optimum levels of inventory to support operations and meet customer demand.
