The Materials Manager will provide leadership in Supply Chain Management activities for a manufacturing location. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities including materials planning, scheduling, inventory control, cash flow management, information flow coordination, and asset management. The successful candidate will lead and manage all procurement and materials management activities, which include order placement, supplier evaluation and certification, supplier follow-up, price negotiation, and ensuring compliance with government procurement regulations. In addition to procurement, the Materials Manager will be responsible for the Production Planning Department's manufacturing resource-planning activities. These activities are crucial for achieving sales and Return on Net Assets (RONA) objectives while maintaining 100% on-time customer deliveries. The role also involves matrix responsibilities for personnel engaged with the MRP database, ensuring a high degree of data accuracy, integrity, and ownership. The Materials Manager will be accountable for the location/division's materials metrics and Standards of Performance. They will help define and implement automated systems to plan and track material flow from customers through procurement to delivery, supporting a comprehensive supply chain management strategy. Furthermore, the position requires ensuring that all material management policies align with the corporation's inventory control objectives. The role also includes facilitating corporate purchasing and materials initiatives, advising on supplier managed inventory or supplier-based contracts with customers, and supporting internal or external audit requirements related to planning, procurement, or inventory control functions. The Materials Manager will prepare and manage the department budget within established guidelines and create and sustain cost reduction programs from procurement to delivery. Professional development for all materials team members is also a key responsibility, along with the implementation of lean principles and materials requirement planning techniques.
