About The Position

Procures, receives, and maintains surgical supplies, instruments, implants, and equipment required for perioperative services Mains appropriate par levels for all surgical services areas, including OR and sterile processing Ensures availability of case-specific supplies based on surgeon preference cards and scheduled procedures Monitors product usage, expiration dates, and recalls ensuring patient safety and regulatory compliance Performs inventory control activities, including cycle counts, reconciliation, and documentation Collaborates with perioperative leadership, surgeons, anesthesia, and vendors to evaluate products and manage supply costs Ensures compliance with AORN standards, ACHC, hospital policies, and regulatory requirements Receives, stores, and distributes supplies in accordance with infection prevention and safety guidelines Maintains accurate records in inventory management systems as applicable Assists with product trials, conversions, and standardization initiatives Responds to urgent and emergent supply needs during surgical procedures Participate in performance improvement, cost-containment, and quality assurance activities Maintains clean, organized, and secure storage areas within surgical services Assists with budget planning and forecasting for surgical supplies Communicates supply shortages or backorders and coordinates alternatives Courier between Sterile Processing and Clinics for instrument pickup in the afternoon and drop off any instruments SPD has ready at the time of pickup Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of surgical supplies, instruments, and procedures
  • Strong organizational and attention-to-detail skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with inventory management systems and basic computer skills
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Prolonged standing, walking, and bending in the surgical environment

Nice To Haves

  • 1-3 years of materials management, supply chain, or surgical services experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintain adequate inventory levels of surgical supplies, implants, and equipment
  • Monitor par levels and adjust based on surgical volume and case mix
  • Perform routine inventory counts
  • Rotate stock to prevent expiration and waste
  • Place orders for surgical supplies and implants according to established procedures
  • Receive, inspect, and verify deliveries for accuracy and quality
  • Track backorders and coordinate substitutions when necessary
  • Maintain accurate records in inventory management systems
  • Ensure sterile core is stocked with required supplies
  • Coordinate specialty items and implants for scheduled procedures
  • Respond promptly to urgent supply needs during procedures
  • Maintain organized, clean, and compliant storage areas.
  • Communicate with vendors regarding product availability, pricing, and recalls
  • Assist with product evaluations
  • Support cost-containment efforts while maintaining quality of care
  • Courier-Pick up instruments from the clinics in the afternoon to be cleaned and reprocessed in SPD
  • Drop off any instruments we have at the time of pickup
  • Follow infection control, safety, and regulatory guidelines (ACHC, AORN)
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of sterile and non-sterile items
  • Participate in recall management and documentation
  • Work closely with surgeons, nurses, sterile processing, and anesthesia staff
  • Communicate supply issues or shortages proactively
  • Participate in meetings and performance improvement activities (New Product Committee)
