About The Position

At Richelieu Foods we are making Great Food from Great People! The Materials Lead is responsible to provide direction for the people and related business procedures that deliver the efficient flow of material within the plant; measured from the time the raw material enters the facility, until the time finished goods are loaded for distribution. This is a hands-on role, not a desk-based position.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of experience in warehousing, material handling or materials management in a manufacturing environment.
  • In depth knowledge of material handling processes
  • Continues improvement experience (SOP’s & SW)
  • One year of Stand-up forklift experience
  • Cycle counting experience
  • Computer literacy
  • Experience using RF scanners
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. regularly and 75 lbs. occasionally.
  • Must be able to pass forklift exam and be able to properly operate a forklift and related equipment.
  • Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to trouble shoot, analyze, and problem solve in a short period of time.
  • Must be able to communicate in a clear and consistent manner.
  • The ability to make decisions based on limited information.
  • Teamwork Orientation – ability to teach and train, with a high energy level and diligent work ethic.
  • Must exhibit Ethical Conduct.
  • Ability to provide clear direction and instruction in a matrix environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and strong leadership skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented and pay close attention to accuracy.
  • Ability to work in a variety of climates and conditions; factory/warehouse facilities that are hot in the summer and cold in the winter; in freezers and coolers year-round.

  • Previous experience in the food industry.
  • Demonstrated capability to lead and mentor a team of 15-25 people.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Executes labor plan, training and supporting staff using hands-on leadership techniques while supporting a safe, performance-based environment.
  • Provide daily direction for material handling staff including job assignments and problem solving.
  • Collaborates with production line leads and supervisors to deliver production targets.
  • Ensures proper FEFO rotation and manufacturability needs (i.e., tempering, etc.)
  • Coordinates the expedited materials with Shipping and Receiving.
  • Coordinates WIP, including mixed cases, veggies, meats and sauces both to and from the line.
  • Coordinates material flow processes that allow for the delivery of the right material to the right place at the right time.
  • Maintains staging locations for each material, by line, for both inbound and returns
  • Executes expectations and measures results for staging materials at the line that aligns to achieving < .5% downtime (attributed to material handling.)
  • Executes put-away procedures for left over raw/pack material from production runs, aligning with FEFO rotation practices.
  • Executes procedures for the proper configuration, palletizing, wrapping, labeling, and loading of all finished goods to allow for proper transfer to Distribution Center(s).
  • Executes the plant safety program by being a champion for safety and treating it as a priority.
  • Serve as back up supervisor as needed.
  • Serve as back up dispatch as needed
  • Safely load and unload trailers
  • Cover breaks and lunch for M. H’s and line feeders when needed
