About the position

The Materials Management Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of materials management within the hospital, including procurement, inventory control, and distribution of medical supplies, equipment, and other materials. This role is crucial in ensuring the efficient and cost-effective operation of the hospital's supply chain, which directly impacts patient care and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategic plans for the procurement, storage, and distribution of medical supplies and other hospital materials.
  • Review and coordinate with all departments on origination and renewal of service contracts to ensure they remain relevant and are renewed at the best rates possible.
  • Provide administrative support to the Chief Financial Officer in the form of reports, budgets, supply utilization analysis, and capital expenditure management.
  • Review, evaluate, and approve all requests for non-stock purchases prior to procurement.
  • Maintain good interdepartmental and intradepartmental relationships by providing the highest level of services, management assistance, and open communication.
  • Interface directly with all departments in the hospital regarding materials that have been requested to ascertain specifications and need.
  • Review for approval all duplicating requirements of the various departments of the hospital with the highest level of service, management assistance, and open communication.
  • Monitor and analyze inventory data to ensure accurate tracking and efficient use of resources.
  • Negotiate and act as the contact person for all purchase agreements with various vendors for materials that may or may not be addressed by a group purchasing organization.
  • Develop and manage the materials management budget, ensuring cost-effective procurement and efficient use of resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in materials management or supply chain management within a healthcare or hospital setting.
  • At least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong negotiation, vendor management, and contract management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of inventory control, procurement processes, and healthcare logistics.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
