About The Position

The Materials Lead Engineer works within a team of skilled materials engineers and technicians to provide materials and process definition, manufacturing supplier qualification, and lifecycle support of aircraft engine hardware. In this role, you will partner with design, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain to ensure product conformance to technical requirements to achieve customer satisfaction and ensure hardware safety and durability.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S in Materials Engineering, Materials Science or Metallurgy from an accredited college or university
  • A minimum of 5 years related engineering experience. Specific experience desired in fluid and electrical control materials
  • Strong interpersonal skills desired as will work with a variety of engineers to include electrical and mechanical disciplines
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Therefore, employment will be contingent upon the ability to prove that you meet the status of a U.S. Person as one of the following: U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. Citizen, have been granted asylee or refugee status (i.e., a protected individual under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)).

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity or research in the following competencies:
  • Metallic, polymeric, and electronic materials
  • Aerospace fasteners
  • Processes (e.g. casting, forging, heat treating, brazing, welding, coating, etc.)
  • Characterization (Scanning electron microscopy, optical microscopy, hardness, fractography, etc.)
  • Experience with manufacturing, quality systems or component field support
  • Experience using and interpreting MMPDS data
  • Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously, strategically prioritize work
  • A self-starter with an eye on problem solving and driving solutions
  • Proven facilitation and collaboration skills in multi-disciplinary teams

Responsibilities

  • Understand and apply technical requirements from specifications and engineering drawings that impact materials and processes and provide guidance to multidisciplinary teams
  • Define and substantiate material and process selections on new designs & changes to design
  • Evaluate, compare and obtain property data to guide material selection for component improvements
  • Evaluate impacts to material characteristics for initial part qualifications, subsequent process changes and repairs
  • Research component history and material properties to apply lessons learned from field experience, manufacturing evolutions, and development programs
  • Perform material evaluations of engine run hardware and manufacturing issues
  • Document and communicate investigation results through technical reports and presentations
  • Identify Materials and Process technology gaps and propose solutions for component durability or future designs
