Support Activities for Agriculture and Forestry

The Materials Handler position is located within a National Forest and is primarily responsible for receiving, storing, and shipping various supplies, equipment, and materials. This temporary full-time role involves ensuring the proper handling and documentation of materials while adhering to safety regulations and operational standards.

  • Receives, marks, and stores a variety of bin and bulk supplies, materials, equipment, and commodities.
  • Inspects incoming shipments for quantity and quality; sorts and segregates material for storage.
  • Loads, unloads, stacks, bins, rotates, and marks stock in accordance with standardized operating instructions.
  • Completes forms relating to stock description, quantity, unit of issue, and labeling requirements for incoming and outgoing materials, equipment, and commodities.
  • Checks shipping documents to verify incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Identifies obvious damage to equipment and materials through visual inspection and reports discrepancies and damage to the supervisor.
  • Uses hardcopy or automated material identification equipment such as bar code wands, computer terminals, and laser scanners to select storage location.
  • Stocks, moves, rotates, and arranges warehouse items.
  • Reviews approved requisition documents and determines stock locations for shipment or distribution.
  • Prepares materials for orders and packs for delivery, obtaining signatures to acknowledge delivery.
  • Uses common hand tools including hammers, screwdrivers, and pliers, as well as strapping tools and stapling and banding machines.
  • Operates hand trucks, hand lifts, pallet jacks, dollies, and electric jack lifts.
  • May use warehouse tractors, tugs, and forklifts under close supervision.
  • Adheres to all safety regulations and secures materials in storage.
  • Must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Ability to perform the work of the position without more than normal supervision.
  • Knowledge of materials and safety practices.
  • Ability to interpret instructions and specifications.
  • Experience with automated material handling systems.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations in a warehouse environment.
