The Materials Handler I position at the University of Arizona involves participating in various tasks related to the shipping, receiving, inspecting, storing, issuing, and delivering of materials, equipment, and supplies within the UFS Warehouse. This role is essential for maintaining the flow of materials necessary for the Facilities Management team to keep the campus clean and operational.

  • Handles and maintains flow of materials and products in manufacturing, stockroom, or warehouse environments.
  • Examines incoming shipments for damage or shortages and corresponds with shipper to rectify; completes paperwork or forms required for documentation.
  • Operates motorized and non-motorized material handling equipment.
  • Counts, weighs or measures incoming or outgoing items to compare identifying information and variety against bills of lading, invoices, orders or other records.
  • Orders or purchases standard stock items, such as recommending additions or deletions to standard stock items or ordering replenishments within established procedures and limits.
  • Reviews order sheets based on customer orders and pulls the right materials for each order; wraps materials and puts them on a delivery truck.
  • Transports high dollar cost equipment, supplies, and materials to customers; secures cargo properly and safely with weight evenly distributed.
  • Works closely with the Material Control Manager to monitor supply levels and submit purchasing recommendations on a regular basis.
  • Unloads delivery trucks and ensures that each incoming delivery matches the purchase order.
  • Assists with on-the-job training to employees and resolves problems utilizing knowledge of receiving/stock operations.
  • Operates material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, or dollies to move stock or reorganize storage.
  • Performs vehicle inspection as required by Federal and Arizona State Law; ensures proper documentation and package marking with appropriate placards when moving hazardous materials.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience may be required.
  • Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
  • One year of shipping/receiving experience.
  • Current and valid OSHA forklift operation certificate.
  • Experience driving cargo vans/vehicles.
  • Prior warehouse experience.
  • Experience working on a college/university campus.
